Brands that sell these: Jeffrey Campbell- jeffreycampbellshoes.com (they have a list of their retailers), Stylenanda (my favorite Korean clothing store)- en.stylenanda.com
I don’t have them yet, (probably because they’re almost $200) but buying these types of shoes is on my bucket list! I found out about them through my beloved store Stylenanda. The models on the website have dawned these iconic Jeffrey Campbell platform heels since the site was born, but the style itself hasn’t been popular in America until recently.
Platform shoes are known to give height without as much pain as purely high heeled shoes. Also, they elongate the leg and make the wearer look naturally taller.
Chunky platform shoes are trendy on both guys and girls.
For fashion-forward guys: I suggest pairing some platform sneakers with dark wash jeans, a strong leather jacket, and a snap-back or beanie to complete the look.
For girls: Pair these with some high-waisted shorts, a white tank top, and a letter jacket. Anything high waisted looks positively amazing when worn with platform shoes.
At Jeffrey Campbell, the most popular brand that sells these types of shoes, platforms range from $160-$300. Knock-offs are sold at places like Forever21 for cheaper, though, but the real deals are the Jeffrey Campbell’s. I’ve seen people of any gender wear chunky shoes for any occasion and with any style. Whether you’re edgy or sophisticated, vintage or glamorous, these shoes are perfect for you!
TL;DR: Be uber fashion forward and splurge on a pair of Jeffrey Campbell platform heels. They elongate your body and are great for any gender and style!
Brands that sell these: Mae Movement- maemovement.com; Lily and Laura (only in boutiques)
I am absolutely in love with these bracelets! I first heard about them through my collection of YouTube beauty gurus, the girls who I usually refer to for any new trends and tips. Once they started showing off these fun jewelry pieces in their videos, I knew I had to have them.
The story behind these colorful bracelets is that they are made by woman artisans in the Katmandu Valley of Nepal so that the ladies can sell them to people like us and not only provide for their families but also protect against Human Trafficking. Instead of these women and children having to travel far distances to work and risk being abducted along the way, they are able to sell something they love to make in the comfort and safety of their own villages and homes. Nepal has a high rate of human trafficking, so we are protecting many women just by purchasing these bracelets.
Here is what Mae Movement has to say about the situation, since I couldn’t paraphrase it enough to not risk downplaying its message:
“Ever year between 10,000-15,000 girls are tricked or sold into slavery, either as domestic, factory or sex workers. The girls are valued at extremely low costs, comparable to animals, usually between $600 and $1,000 dollars depending on age and beauty. Some of these girls are sold as young as 7 years of age. Living conditions for these girls is horrid. They are imprisoned in rooms and cages. Beaten, starved, and raped until their will is broken. More than half of these girls are HIVpositive and do not receive any health care. If girls are not sold they are often expected to work in areas of hard physical labor. They are lucky if they make 50 cents a day. By purchasing a Nepalese Mae Movement Bracelet you can help these women and children create a better life than one plagued by this tragedy.”
These bracelets sell online for $10 (but can be cheaper in boutiques) and can be fashionable for both guys and girls. I like to stack these like arm candy and pair with a watch and some gold accents. The great thing about these bracelets is that they complement any outfit, whether its elegant or casual.
TL;DR: Purchase these on-trend bracelets for ten bucks and save women in Nepal from the horrors of human trafficking.
